ATH . KHAMSIN by exizt ATH . KHAMSIN by exizt
Long time ago, I tryed to make a model of a very cool looking attack helicopter from the PATLABOR anime movie, but it failed.

In the last few weeks I attempt to work with new techniques and methodes. During my experiments, I found a awesome drawing of a unknown artist with these warmashine. Now I`ve had a good example to start with modeling.

The original designes have a few errors that I corrected. Especialy the rotor system wasnt correct. There was no tail rotor or a viewable NOTAR system (wich isnt good for a military helicopter). The coaxial main rotor is a complex system and the maintenance a difficult job, but this construction combined the best characteristics in speed, maneuverability and carrying capacity.

Other additions are different weapon systems (missiles and a working cannon construction), laser and radar sensors, fuel probe, GOC, PSC, C/F-E....

Enough talking. Enjoy.

Coaxial rotors need no tailrotor or NOTAR

Yes, that's why I don't use it.

I see, it's just that "The original designes have a few errors that I corrected. Especialy the rotor system wasnt correct. There was no tail rotor or a viewable NOTAR system" You made it sound like a coaxial helicopter would need a tailrotor/notar.

No, you missunderstand something. The original design have NO rotor system. Neither a Tailrotor,  nor a NOTAR. I´ve ever wondered how the helicopter can fly without any torque compensation.

No, single main rotor and no visible tail gear.

A helicopter blades at the best Soviet style .... fantastic! many do not believe, but a double rotor has proven most reliable than the classic rear rotor, leaves very disadvantaged, apparatus, but as the model of Soviet origin do not wish to use it ... greetings.

The koax rotor is a spanish invention.

It's not a soviet helicopter. The model is fictional, the base is the Hellhound from PATLABOR.

I've made a few more improvements you can see here:

Of course it's not a Soviet helicopter, but the style of rotor technology if that Country. Now that the Patlabor (very good series anime) series have seen such type rotor you used for your drawing tells me you chose a techno logy very edgy!

If you look at actual attack helicopters, you would see a similar loadout. 6 hardpoints for rockets or fuel tanks and one cannon. I know, the dimensions of the weapons systems are a little big, but it isnt so far feched as you think. In addition we have a coaxial main rotor. They can lift a lot.

Nice design. Reminds me, not only of the Hokum, but also of the more recent Sikorsky X-2. Add a pusher of some kind onto that and it'll zoom far! (IIRC, as far or farther than a tiltrotor with less complexity!).

Greetings, First off i have to say this is a great design. I love finding new takes on old ideas, especially when its from an anime i love. I have to wonder though, would it be possible to model this as a 1/5 or 1/10 scale RC model? I do all sorts of RC things, boats, planes, helicopters along with linking them to computers with cameras in the cockpit area to fly like flight simulators. When i showed this to a few friends of mine they freaked. The first thing they started talking about was scaling it so the gun under its nose shot paint balls lol, which naturally led into making the rockets functional by using pressurized air to explode splashing paint everywhere.

What would your take on this be? if it could be built?

What a monster! Great design.
Although the fuel probe should be at the nose, or propellers can cut the fuel hose. Unless this probe is extendable.

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, the fuelprobe is extendable. It wouldt work without that function and the space in the nose is reserved for the electronics.

Wow, really fucking cool, love the presentation and the compound/ coaxial configuration is the current and future trend with military rotorcraft. My only minor nitpick is the 30mm gun is a little large and makes it looks slightly unbalanced and front heavy, it looks more like a Gatling than a revolver cannon (they are two distinctly different types, revolver cannons are probably better suited to helicopter applications due to lighter weight and greater mechanical simplicity). In the original design by the legendary Shoji Kawamori there is a NOTAR system (at least in the original design drawings) but I actually prefer this revision, the front profile is more aggressive and angular. The fuel probe would also have to extend to really unwieldy lengths and I would think with the lift capability and abundance of hardpoints that external tanks would make more sense to extend range.

Great work!

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, it is a gattling, but I`d couldnt find a suitable name for the cannon as I create that. I know that thing is very huge, but its also a style element from the original and in relation to the rest of the loadout, its good enough for a fictional Heli. As I create the model, Ive thought about the NOTAR system, but as I said, its not good for military use (no autorotation possible). Fuell Probe... yes, not the best solution, but its cool to have one ;)
